Many Pop Art imagesare perfect for making griddler puzzles. The bold (but few) colors, the large interesting shapes and iconic characters, legends or events depicted make for very interesting puzzles. On the right are some Pop Art images that I think would make great puzzles. Many of them are of Madonna because that is the particular Pinterest "rabbit hole" I fell down. Artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring are perfect examples of artists that create art that is perfect for Griddler Puzzles! I found a great image of Pop Art portraying a 90's Madonna (the artist currently known as, not Mary, mother of Jesus). As anyone who make puzzles regularly will tell you some body parts like hands and strands of hair are very difficult to make solvable puzzles with. My issues with this image? Madonna's eyelashes and one eyebrow. Madonna, before she became internationally famous, had pretty bushy eyebrows; that would have been easier, I think. This eyebrow has been waxed beyond recognition and for some reason is very hard to make solvable without increasing the size. The eyelashes are even tougher. The areas in the picture on the right that are shaded ,still need to be changed to make the puzzle solvable. What you can't see in the picture is the time I put into making the other eyelashes (not to mention the eye you can't see) solvable. I try VERY hard not to change the original image too much. Sometimes it is necessary. I hope to find a solution soon to this issue so I can submit this puzzle and get started on some other Pop Art inspired puzzles. | |

I chose a simplistic image to do this the first time to make sure I understood how to submit them correctly. I am hoping to be able to create even more interesting puzzles now that I am not limited to 8 colors for an entire puzzle but instead can have up to 8 different colors per 50 x 50 section (or smaller) of the puzzle.
More importantly I will be able to create puzzles that have a variety of background colors. Until now I have had to make sure that the images I was using had at least one color that was a majority throughout the entire image. I submitted the puzzle last night and I am pleased to see it already published this morning.

The way things are supposed to be... When I received the comment "ok" from a solver I also noticed that the thumbnail clearly shows a very square face. See the image below. I hope this helps explain why certain puzzles appear the way they do. I am still learning how to make puzzles in such a way that the editors will publish them as is.
I really enjoy the comments that solver leave on my puzzles. I learn from the constructive criticism and I am inspired by the positive feedback I receive. My favorite is when I have to use Google Translate to find out what some of the international solvers are leaving as comments. I hope to continue to document my journey as a puzzle author and share what I have learned in the process. Thanks, Kendra |
